On-Chain Analyst Checkmate Signals Bitcoin Seller Exhaustion Near $60K Support
Despite heavy spot ETF outflows and hardware wallet security concerns, Bitcoin's price resilience points to late-stage seller exhaustion. On-chain analyst Checkmate outlines current market structure, key cost-basis levels, and why a deeper correction to $45,000 remains unlikely.

Despite facing significant headwinds—including roughly $8.25 billion in spot Bitcoin ETF outflows, corporate selling, and security concerns surrounding Coldcard hardware wallets—Bitcoin has shown notable resilience around the $60,000 to $65,000 range. According to on-chain analyst Checkmate, the asset's ability to trade flat amid negative news indicates that the market is experiencing seller exhaustion, a dynamic characteristic of late-stage bear market bottom formations.
## On-Chain Metrics and the $45,000 Downside Model Checkmate explained that current investor behavior mirrors past 'time pain' chapters, such as the market consolidation following the FTX collapse in late 2022 and the 2019 bear cycle. Addressing consensus theories of a potential drop to $45,000, his stress-test modeling showed that forcing prices down to that level would inflict market damage and unrealized supply losses comparable only to the 2015 bear market. Consequently, he views a drop to $45,000 as a low-probability tail event representing the bottom 1% to 2% quantile of his mean-reversion distribution models.
## Key Technical and On-Chain Levels to Reclaim To transition out of the current consolidation phase, Checkmate highlighted several critical cost-basis benchmarks. The short-term holder cost basis, currently around $67,000, serves as the first line of defense for bears and the initial target for bulls. Regaining this level, along with the 200-day moving average and the 'true market mean' active investor cost basis near $78,000, would signal a structural shift and help reactivate momentum traders across the market.
