# Michael Howell: Bitcoin Must Hold $70,000 as Fed Liquidity Policy Hints at Macro Bottom

Macro strategist Michael Howell outlines why Bitcoin needs to hold above $70,000 to establish a base and explains how Federal Reserve liquidity management could drive the next crypto cycle.

Bitcoin must hold above the critical technical level of $70,000 to form a solid base for a future market rebound, according to global liquidity expert Michael Howell of Capital Wars. Speaking in a video interview, Howell emphasized that liquidity serves as a primary leading indicator across asset classes. While tightening liquidity has historically weighed heavily on crypto markets, Howell pointed to early signs that global liquidity conditions may be reaching a bottom, positioning Bitcoin—which he calls the most liquidity-sensitive asset on the planet—as a potential front-runner for the next cycle.

Howell argued that evaluating Federal Reserve policy solely through the benchmark Fed funds rate provides an incomplete picture. Instead, he highlighted the Fed's active management of bank reserves, which have stabilized around $3 trillion following repo market disruptions late last year. Howell noted that the central bank appears to be tightening at a modest "half speed" to avoid triggering a financial market disruption or economic recession, ensuring liquidity remains available to fund expanding state spending and economic growth.

Looking at the broader macroeconomic picture, Howell explained that sovereign debt in both the West and East is expanding at a compound rate of roughly 8% annually, requiring matching growth in global liquidity to service debt rollovers. As a result, monetary inflation hedges such as gold and Bitcoin are structurally positioned to compound alongside liquidity growth over the long term. While Howell originally projected the next major liquidity rebound for the second half of 2027, he suggested the turn could occur sooner, with Bitcoin also indirectly benefiting from U.S. strategies surrounding stablecoins and Treasury market stability.
