# Token Buybacks: A Free Daily Tracker of Crypto Protocol Buybacks

Token Buybacks, a free site from the team behind CryptoCatalyst, tracks daily spending on token buybacks across 34 active programs: $156 million in the last 30 days, led by Hyperliquid, Pump.fun and Uniswap, with data from DefiLlama.

## Key takeaways

- Token Buybacks is a free site from the team behind CryptoCatalyst that tracks daily crypto token buybacks across 34 active programs.
- In the 30 days to October 23, 2026, those programs spent $156 million buying back their own tokens, and $1.58 billion over the past year.
- Hyperliquid accounts for about 42% of recent buyback spending ($65.8M), followed by Pump.fun ($30.8M) and Uniswap ($7.88M).
- Buyback yield (annualized buybacks divided by market cap) ranks programs by size relative to the token, not just dollars spent.
- All data comes from DefiLlama holders revenue; five tokens labeled Mixed include non-buyback payments and are an upper bound.

The team behind CryptoCatalyst runs [Token Buybacks](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/), a free daily crypto token buyback tracker that shows how much protocols spend buying back their own tokens. It updates daily from DefiLlama data and covers 34 active buyback programs, from Hyperliquid and Pump.fun to Uniswap, Chainlink and Lido, plus seven programs that have gone quiet.

## What a Buyback Is, and Why It's Hard to See

A token buyback is when a protocol uses its revenue to buy its own token on the open market. The tokens are then held in a treasury, burned to cut supply, or handed to stakers. It is the crypto version of a company repurchasing its shares.

Protocols announce programs, but the actual spending is scattered across wallets, contracts and dashboards. Token Buybacks gathers it into one [token buyback leaderboard](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/) so the programs can be compared on the same terms. That matters more after [SEC staff said](/articles/2026-09-28-sec-clarifies-token-buybacks-wont-automatically-make-crypto-a-security) that announcing a buyback on a functional network doesn't, by itself, make a token a security.

## What the Numbers Show Right Now

In the 30 days to October 23, 2026, the 34 active programs spent **$156 million** buying back their own tokens, and **$1.58 billion** over the past year. The latest complete day, October 23, came to $3.96 million.

The spending is highly concentrated:

- [Hyperliquid (HYPE) buybacks](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/token/hype/): $65.8 million, about 42% of everything tracked, though that is down 15.4% on the previous 30 days.
- [Pump.fun (PUMP) buybacks](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/token/pump/): $30.8 million, up 28.0%.
- [Uniswap (UNI) buybacks](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/token/uni/): $7.88 million, down 51.0%.

Buybacks come out of protocol revenue, so they track how that revenue is doing. Hyperliquid is a useful case: its revenue [fell for four straight quarters](/articles/2026-08-09-hyperliquids-rwa-perps-boom-cuts-into-hype-revenue) as of our August report, even as open interest hit a record, and its buyback spending over the last 30 days is 15.4% lower than in the 30 days before.

## Reading the Leaderboard

Each token gets 24-hour, 7-day and 30-day buybacks, the change against the previous 30 days, an annualized figure, its market cap and a **buyback yield**: annualized buybacks divided by market cap. It is a rough measure of how much of a token's circulating value a program would buy in a year at today's pace. It is not a return anyone receives.

Yield tells a different story from size. Among tokens with a market cap above $100 million, [Pons (PONS) buyback yield](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/token/pons/) is currently the highest at 34.8%, while Hyperliquid's is 4.8%, Uniswap's is 2.2% and [Chainlink's (LINK) buyback history](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/token/link/) works out to 0.7%. Every token has its own page with its history and DefiLlama's description of what is counted.

## Weekly Reports

Each week the site publishes a [weekly token buyback report](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/reports/2026-w42/). The latest, for October 12 to 18, found 22 protocols spending $31.9 million, up 0.4% on the week before, with HYPE alone accounting for 51% of the total. Reports include the top ten programs, the biggest movers, and a ready-made thread of posts. Past weeks are listed in the [archive of weekly buyback reports](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/reports/).

## How the Data Is Built, and Its Limits

All figures come from DefiLlama's open fee adapters, using the **holders revenue** metric, and prices and market caps come from DefiLlama's coins API. Holders revenue is broader than buybacks, so the site lists only tokens whose DefiLlama methodology says it is mainly buybacks, and labels the mechanism for each: buyback, buyback and burn, buyback and distribute, or **Mixed**. Five programs are currently labeled Mixed (SKY, ORE, BONK, RSR and GNS), because their figures also include flows such as staking rewards; treat those as an upper bound.

The site checks for new data every hour, and the current day is left out until it is complete, so the "latest day" is always yesterday in UTC. DefiLlama sometimes revises past days, and the site follows those revisions. The [token buyback methodology](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/methodology/) spells out each calculation and its limits: figures are only as accurate as the underlying adapter, and discretionary or off-chain buybacks that a project doesn't publish may be missing. The full dataset is available as a [raw JSON buyback dataset](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/data/buybacks.json) for anyone who wants to build on it; please credit DefiLlama as the original source.

Token Buybacks is free to use at [tokenbuybacks.app](https://www.tokenbuybacks.app/). Nothing on it is financial advice.

## FAQ

### Where does Token Buybacks get its data?

Figures come from DefiLlama's open holders-revenue adapters, limited to tokens whose holders revenue is mainly buybacks. Prices and market caps come from DefiLlama's coins API. The site checks for new data every hour.

### What is buyback yield?

Buyback yield is a token's annualized buyback spending divided by its market cap. It shows how much of the token's value the program would buy in a year at its current pace. It is a rough measure, not a return anyone receives.
